Assistant Instructor Course

When you attend the first 5 days of an IDC (Instructor Development Course), you can become an Assistant Instructor. After this course you are able to teach Specialties like Peak Performance Buoyancy, Project Aware and Coral Reef Conservation. There is also an option to follow more Instructor Specialties as an AI, like Digital Underwater Photography or Emergency O2 Provider. Of course you can follow the whole IDC and become straight Open Water Scuba Instructor

When can I follow the Assistant Instructor Course

  • The AI course starts when the IDC starts, in february, june, september and december
  • Sinai Dive Club has four times a year an IDC planned, see our Course Schedule

What You Can Teach as an Assistant Instructor

  • Theory presentations
  • In confined water, present skills training under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • The PPB Specialty under the direction of a PADI Instructor
  • The Project AWARE and Coral Reef Conservation Specialty
  • Conduct the PADI DSD experiences in a pool or confined water and conduct the PADI Seal Team AquaMissions
  • The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty under the direction of a PADI Instructor, after following this Instructor Specialty by our Course Director

Scuba Gear

Have your own dive gear. If you don’t have all, you can rent equipment by Sinai Dive Club. You also need a dive watch (with seconds) for the skills..

The PADI Materials You Need

PADI IDC crewpak (for AI or OWSI): Instructor cue cards for OW, AOW, Rescue and Divemaster courses), Preparation Slates, Guide to Teaching, Quiz and exam booklets, Specialty Instructor Manuals (on CD), a decal (for the PADI Instructor exam), the Diving Knowledge Workbook and a PADI Rug Bag. Don’t forget to order the IDC crewpack by Sinai Dive Club when you book the AI or IDC.

What you also need during the AI or IDC: RDP, ERDP-ML, OW-, AOW-, Rescue- and Divemaster book.

Prerequisites

  • Be a PADI Divemaster or have qualifying certification from another certification organization
  • Be at least 18 years old and have logged 60 dives, including night, deep, and navigation dives
  • Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months and have CPR and First Aid Training within the last 24 months
  • Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement (PDF) signed by a physician within the last 12 months
